City Park in Pinang Ranti Turns into Illegal Waste Disposal Site

The function of a city park on Jalan Garuda, Pinang Ranti Urban Village, Makasar Sub-District, East Jakarta, has been abused by the locals who turn it into illegal waste disposal site (TPS). As a result, the park becomes dirty and smelly.

Yusuf (40), a motorcycle-taxi driver who based around the park, disclosed that most of the people who threw trashes into the park are motorists. Whereas, a banner stating prohibition to litter and the sanction in form of fine as much as Rp 500 thousand until Rp 30 million had been installed related unit.
“Trashes here are usually from motorists who pass the park,” he told, Friday (10/3).

Actually, the locals had conducted a communal work and cleaned the park. At that time, they managed to collect trashes up to one truck.
“The banner was telling about Bylaw No. 8 on Public Order. But, not long after being installed, the banner was removed by someone the next day,” she stated.
